3 January 2019

After fighting with an alien cat in my dream, I am awake at 1.30 am. It all is followed by a futile effort of building a sleep pattern of 9.30 pm to 6 am. Alas, not all wishes come true at once. No problem I will keep on working.

Being a really smart gal I have messed up with my sleep-wake cycle long ago, and today when I accidentally opened Rujuta Diwekar’s video on cortisol on my facebook page- I realized what has been going on with me.

For all of you who are not aware that I am a distant relative of Kareena Kapoor Khan and Rujuta is the link who tied Kareena and me together. You all must be wondering why have I never discussed this earlier, why I took so long to disclose my bond with Kareena. Let me explain.

Rujuta Diwekar is a God’s blessing for all the fools like me who for some stranger reason believe(ed) that going on USA or UK-based diet programs would make us patla (thin/ lean). It was Rujuta’s eating desi ghee and daal sabzi chawala policy and Kareena’s candid lobbying and campaigning of this policy, which had really opened my eyes. So when Kareena started to show up in 90% of my youtube recommendations I began to take notice. Honestly, since then my life, how I see food, my eating patterns have  changed 360 degrees.

Due to this cosmic/ food connection I know firmly believe that Kareena and I are spiritual sisters. I have enormous respect for these two ladies and the way they are clearing our mindsets and showing the correct way to live life fully, is highly commendable.

Anyways back to cortisol, for almost year now I have been on and off on exercise routine. ‘Off’ because I am not seeing the results as quickly as I used to see them many years ago, so that demotivates me at times. Yesterday on her video https://www.facebook.com/rujuta.diwekar/videos/10155435070158424/ Rujuta
said something that really hit home, and she pointed out the following symptoms:
  1.  You are unable to sleep at 9.30 or 10.30 or 12.30 or 1 am or 3 am
  2.   You are unable to wake up at 6.30 (or early morning)
  3.   Alarms don’t work for you.
  4.   Even if you do wake up you feel sluggish.
  5.   Don’t feel like eating breakfast but dead hungry after 6.30 pm.
  6.   You are exercising but not losing weight
  7.    You are fatigued most of the day.

If someone, who like me is experiencing any of these symptoms then this is a case of uncontrolled cortisol. Cortisol is a steroid hormone, belonging to glucocorticoids. It has many functions like controlling the body’s blood sugar levels, regulating metabolism, acting as an anti-inflammatory, influencing memory formation & blood pressure and helping development of the fetus. Too much cortisol over a prolonged period of time can:
  • Result in rapid weight gain mainly in the face, chest and abdomen contrasted with slender arms and legs;
  • a flushed and round face
  • high blood pressure
  • osteoporosis
  • skin changes (bruises and purple stretch marks)
  • muscle weakness
  • mood swings, which show as number of psychiatric conditions such as irritability, anxiety and depression.
  • increased thirst and frequency of urination.
The secretion of cortisol is mainly controlled by three inter-communicating regions of the body, the hypothalamus in the brain, the pituitary gland and the adrenal gland. (For further information: http://www.yourhormones.info/hormones/cortisol/ )

What can be done to regulate cortisol? (4 Principles)
  1. Regulating sleep patterns (which I am trying to do).
  2. Eating homemade food with desi ghee (For further info check out https://www.facebook.com/rujuta.diwekar/)
  3. Strength training exercise
  4. Acupressure on hypothalamus, pituitary gland & adrenal gland (5 minutes- 3 times a day on empty stomach)

I have just started following all this more rigorously, so let’s do it together. Listen, it doesn’t matter if you don’t have any of these symptoms it is still great to follow the 4 Principles. It is not easy but let’s have some self-discipline and put our old-school will power at work.

By the way, Happy New Year! May the year 2019 bring us all peace, joy, health and wealth…. With time and maturity things become clearer, and finally I have sorted out my life for this and coming years. Take a look:

P.S. I wish all the best to PM Imran Khan. Special message to our Finance Minister Mr. Asad Umar, please stabilize Pak currency I need to buy a new laptop urgently (my PC is on ventilator) but its price is hiking like crazy.

With havin so much written content do you ever run into any issues of plagorism or
copyright infringement? My blog has a lot of exclusive content I've
either authored myself or outsourced but it looks like a lot
of it is popping it up all over the web without my authorization. Do you know any solutions to help prevent
content from being ripped off? I'd definitely appreciate it.
