Rickshaw adventure

What a travelling day I had, I ventured from one end of the city into another and by now I feel as if my arms and feet are numb just by sitting in the car. Later in evening we had to go Saddar, downtown area a business hub in Karachi, for some work. Due to evening hours roads were jam packed with cars but we had to get at our destination quickly so instant decision was made to leave the car and opt for a three wheeler we karachites call Rickshaw.

I so much wanted to travel in the new CNG versions. The earlier models of rickshaws some of which are still visible could easily dislocate our internal organs. Whenever I used to go in them my liver probably changed places with my kidneys and stomach was placed near lungs. Then who can forget those infamous head bumps on every speed breaker.

So I did my work by getting there just in time and returning within an hour. On the other hand if we have used car it would have taken us more than 3 hours.

I must say that the latest CNG versions are a class in their own with comfortable seats, spacious interior but of course they lack the exquisite interiors of the earlier rickshaw versions. Earlier models had versatile handicrafts, shining seats with psychedelic surround sound system and lighting.

These three wheelers are the best mode of transport when someone wants to do sightseeing or even better to enjoy a rainy day. Many years ago in heavy rains my younger cousins and I were desperate to eat a take away biryani, since they were not delivering during rain and nobody in the house allowed us to go in car so we decided to use the famous three-wheeler and oh boy what fun we had. There wasn’t any worry of any traffic jam or our car breaking down in the middle of the road.

I have started to read Urdu suspense novel by the classic writer Ibn-e-Safee. I first read one of his Imran series couple of years ago and become his fan. Now after a long gap I bought his “Fareedi” series. It is however taking me 15 days to complete one chapter because the only time I have available is before bedtime and that too last for 15 minutes only. I am reading Urdu novels for the first time, earlier I read Shafiq-ur-Rehman’s “Himmaqateen” and it was a marvel.

Suspense novels by Agatha Christie are my all time favorites though. I wanted to read some Urdu literature because I am loosing my fluency in Urdu. Nevertheless, poetry is one genre whether in English or Urdu that I have tough time both reading or understanding. In my college exams Urdu poetry was a living nightmare, but literature was effortless. My problem was that if I learn the first verse of Mirza Ghalib I would mix it with the second verse of Mir Taqi Mir. So I decided once and for all, irrespective of the consequences, I shall only learn the first verse of every poet and the second one shall be mine.

I mixed my poetry with Mirza Ghalib’s yet with some miracle it actually worked, and I also believe that due to my Grandmother’s prayers I not only passed but had good grades in Urdu poetry exams.

Story of my life hun…

Post completed before 9 pm another miracle.

Love and more..

Sonya. (Day 229)

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS): What It Actually Feels Like

Wow! It feels nice to be back to my favourite place in the world, my blog, my love. But today it seems that the world has rotated 360 degrees. As I was trying to figure out how to tap into this new world order I thought the best way is to ask my Higher Power to guide me through. And what a better way to do that, other than recite a prayer ‘Dua Istikhara’ a supplication used by Muslims to seek guidance from Allah before making a decision. If we just read the translation of this supplication: “O Allah, I seek guidance from Your knowledge and power and ask You from Your great bounty. Surely, you can do it, and I am not. You know, and I do not, and You are the Knower of the unseen. O Allah, if You know that this matter is good for me in my religion, life, and end, then decree it for me, make it easy, and bless it for me. But if You know that this matter is bad for me, in my religion, my existence, and my end, then turn it away from me and turn me away from it, and decree for me what is g...

3 January 2019

After fighting with an alien cat in my dream, I am awake at 1.30 am. It all is followed by a futile effort of building a sleep pattern of 9.30 pm to 6 am. Alas, not all wishes come true at once. No problem I will keep on working. Being a really smart gal I have messed up with my sleep-wake cycle long ago, and today when I accidentally opened Rujuta Diwekar’s video on cortisol on my facebook page- I realized what has been going on with me.  For all of you who are not aware that I am a distant relative of Kareena Kapoor Khan and Rujuta is the link who tied  Kareena and me  together. You all must be wondering why have I never discussed this earlier, why I took so long to disclose my bond with Kareena. Let me explain.   Rujuta Diwekar is a God’s blessing for all the fools like me who for some stranger reason believe(ed) that going on USA or UK-based diet programs would make us patla (thin/ lean). It was Rujuta’s eating desi ghee and daal sabzi ch...

The Telecom Bill That Slipped Through While Pakistan Looked Elsewhere

While we were all mourning the petrol price hikes and drowning in the chaos of inflation, IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja quietly tabled the Pakistan Telecommunication (Re-organisation) (Amendment) Bill 2026. Most of us didn't even notice. The bill amended the 1996 Pakistan Telecommunication (Re-Organization) Act. It redefined certain terms and replaced Section 27A on Right of Way with a new Section 27B. What sounds like routine legislative work is anything but ordinary. This bill grants state-backed authorization to telecom companies to take over any private property or land and install 5G infrastructure including mobile towers and fiber-optic networks wherever they please. No consent required. No negotiation. Just entry and installation. The astonishing reality is that this draconian bill which grossly violates the fundamental rights of Pakistanis was approved by majority vote in the National Assembly on June 11, 2026. Not a single member objected. Nobody raised their voic...
