Tanhaiyaan

Finally the wait is over and today we are going to watch the sequel of Tanhaiyaan (Solitaries), a famous TV play of mid-eighty’s. I have very loving memories of this drama and each character is still engraved in the mind. From the beautiful Shahnaz Sheikh, Marina Khan, to amazing (Qabacha) Behroze Subzwari, Durdana Butt, Asif Raza Mir, Yasmin Ismail, and many other greats. Nothing could beat the splendour which Tanhaiyaan had created in the hearts and mind of its audience.

It was simply a brilliant TV play directed by the exceptional late Shehzad Khalil and story written by our veteran writer Ms. Haseena Moin. Haseena Moin is well-known for her romantic comedies although she has written several plays on variety of topics.

I don’t know whether she is writing the sequel or they have opted for someone else. Whoever would be writing the sequel has to live up to very high expectations because what we had seen earlier was epic performances with splendid direction, beautiful dialogues and screen play.

Nevertheless, we should be grateful that many of those actors are still with us and we have this wonderful opportunity to once again watch them all together in Tanhaiyaan, nai silsilay. (Solitaries, new series)

Unfortunately these days it is becoming increasingly difficult to watch any Pakistani TV serials because most of the plays today have below-standard language/ dialogues, unnecessary bold scenes and top it all we see highly abusive male characters beating up women. And if that is not enough there are several shows where both husband and wife are having extra-marital affairs.

All in all most of what we watch on TV is pure rubbish. Although some argue that this is reality and we should see in order to inform ourselves. My point is, even though this might be happening in this country but before these plays only few people knew about such issues and now the country is aware of things that are not worth any attention.

Besides if you want to show reality or express your hidden feelings then it is preferable to write novels or make art movies, in any case TV because of its reach to the families is not the right medium to show such content.

Coming back to Tanhaiyaan, nai silsilay I wish them good luck for this play.

Famous characters from the original Tanhaiyaan

Love.
