Allhumdolillah! I am at a much better place since my last post with series of lab tests, utlrasounds, a mammogram and some other really scary tests, and a gut wrenching anxiety of results. I am doing well thankfully everything was clear except low iron levels with vitamin d3 deficiency. These deficiencies are now on their way to recovery. It is worth noting that I have been struggling with intense brain and physical fatigue since 2019 but not a single doctor was able to identify my problem. Once somebody is diagnosed with depression or anxiety then every health issue they complain about is looked from the psychological lenses. Nobody asked me to check iron, vitamin b12 or vitamin d3 deficiencies even my mum who is a dermatologist always assured me that I am fine and this weakness is just a phase. It was a phase alright, it engulfed almost 8 years of my life pushed back my career and research ambitions. This is not the case alone with me but there are many people who silentl...
Before we begin, let us all dedicate few seconds to pray for the peace
of Arfah Karim’s departed soul. May she rest in peace and her family gets the
courage to face this distressful time with
grace.
When a talented person is right
in front of us only desiring our appreciation we withhold our admiration and
the moment that person leaves the world we suddenly feel a great loss.
When this little girl was alive
with us only formal recognition was given to her and the moment she died you
see hundreds of known and unknown powerful people condoling her demise, someone
even decided to establish an IT University in Arfah’s honour.
Media needs to seriously look at
its policies because it seems to have made a steadfast trait to only promote
darkness and violence when it is not the only thing happening. Other than IT
students very few people were aware of Arfah Karim being the youngest Microsoft
Certified Specialist. Media failed to promote her achievements and the only
thing which got its attention was how many tubes were going into Arfah’s ailing
body.
Then there is the entertainment
side of every channel and the situation here is not encouraging either. The
moment you switch on to any Pakistani TV play or soap or drama there are images of
violent men shouting or beating or slapping women, using abusive derogatory
language and the women are crying begging for their lives.
There is another variety as well where
either the characters are drinking alcohol or both husband and wife are having
extra marital affairs.
When I enquire with the audience
as to why they want to see something like this for entertainment they reply
that it is the reality, people are becoming morally corrupt and there is no harm of us getting aware of it. Yes I agree that this could be reality but before very few
people were aware of it and now the entire nation is aware of such realities.
What is the point of seeing pain,
abuse as your one hour of entertainment and what sort of awareness you would
get after seeing a male character getting married to five women in a TV play?
I wonder and I wonder.
A very Good Evening to you all…
Sonya. (Day 260)
