The Blessed Ramadan
The Holy Month of Ramazan is here
and although a bit late, nevertheless; I wish you all the peace, love, prosperity and millions of blessings. So many blessings to gain and so little time to pray, we take a breath and this
month flies by. Yet the miracle of this Blessed Month is that whatever little
we gain is enough for a lifetime.
Another integral part of this
month is fast and breaking of the fast, with lots of options to delight the flavour
buds. However, I think moderation is the key here. Eat what you like but keep
everything in a balance with your digestive system or else heavy acidity, fatigue
would become your permanent friends.
My favourite dish in iftaari
(breaking time of the fast) are pakoras, I cannot live without them they are my
life and love of my heart and soul. Especially when they are accompanied by spicy
green chutney.
Yet irrespective of my love for pakoras, I realize that it is after
all a lethal attraction. Once you eat two or three any kind of fried items you
are bound to feel acidic because after taking oily food you need water and lots
of it.
So in the end what is left in
your system is tons of water, oil and besan (all-purpose flour) all floating together. These food items do not give us any nutrition because we are unable to eat any
protein, carbohydrate or proper food after all this.
What I have learned and this
keeps me energetic, break the fast with one or two dates and if you do not have
any blood pressure problems take a glass of water with a tiny pinch of salt - it
is going to balance the electrolytes.
It is
only after that fruit your digestive system will be happy, gradually eat your
iftaar delights.
Although it is easier to say all this but try to take minimum fried
items and focus your attention on proper dinner.
Well that’s it for today’s health
bulletin, your host Sonya Syed is signing off now. Have a wonderful Iftaar. See
you soon!
Sonya Syed (Day 437).
