My Two Cents

Allhumdolillah! I am at a much better place since my last post with series of lab tests, utlrasounds, a mammogram and some other really scary tests, and a gut wrenching anxiety of results. I am doing well thankfully everything was clear except low iron levels with vitamin d3 deficiency. These deficiencies are now on their way to recovery. It is worth noting that I have been struggling with intense brain and physical fatigue since 2019 but not a single doctor was able to identify my problem. Once somebody is diagnosed with depression or anxiety then every health issue they complain about is looked from the psychological lenses. Nobody asked me to check iron, vitamin b12 or vitamin d3 deficiencies even my mum who is a dermatologist always assured me that I am fine and this weakness is just a phase.   It was a phase alright, it engulfed almost 8 years of my life pushed back my career and research ambitions.  This is not the case alone with me but there are many people who silentl...

In the name of love...(Children series 1)

These days Mommys are going for short cuts, easy food = happy child.   Every evening when it is chai time for mommy.... a child is blessed with a chips packet to ease her hunger pang. Lunch for school is also easy to manage- some days for French fries, some for other deep fried food from your favourite packaged food company, on some days its packaged pizza, other days its potato chips and juice, and some days when Mommy wants to really rest there is even a better option, a samosa or roll kebab from school. In a supermarket if you walk by any food trolley with children by their parent’s side, you cannot fail to miss the mountain of chips, biscuits, packs of juices, and of course multiple items of the packaged food.  I think it is better for these parents to kill their children immediately rather than opting for slow poisoning and throwing them into never-ending health miseries. A mother more than a father is to be blamed here as they are respon...

Only if we knew...

Image Courtesy Fahad Mustafa official Facebook page This latest ad that stars my favorite actor Shaan with other brilliant Pakistani actors from the likes of Jawed Sheikh, Iman Ali, Saima, Mehwish Hayat and Fahad Mustafa. I   loved it, fell in love with it immediately it didn’t take me to think twice and I just loved it. And then in few seconds of watching this number cum advertisement, I realized that the vocals for this song were given by Indian singers Sukhwinder Singh and Sunidhi Chauhan. I mean, like what the hell!! This ad was supposed to showcase Pakistani culture and its celebrities, no offence to either Sukhwinder or Sunidhi, but what the f….? It is not their fault that our people are dying to sign them, they are after all professionals and simply doing their job. But are we so handicapped as a nation that we couldn’t find someone from Pakistan to sing for this ad. Sorry for the language but I am really pissed off with those people who are sitting on exec...

Magic or Miracles..continued

"Sadia Saleem   Another good one...ur blogs have always uplifted my spirits in some way, but this one being totally different gives us a small grasp at just how powerful our Almighty is...our praises are just a measurement of our faith in Him and our worships are a manifestation of that measurement...ur blog actually took me in d flashbacks and I remembered when we actually landed up at a babas astana for d sake of fun...at times those carefree days are deeply missed       keep up the best work    " This one is especially for my best friend Sadia who has always shown me her love, appreciation and encouragement. And of course, how can I forget all of you for always blessing me with your affections. Sadia and all of my Dear Readers, I thank you so much from my heart for responding so beautifully for my post “Miracles & Magic? I wonder…” . AND Thank You Allah for  this  amazing opportunity to write this blog. It is so true that how ...

Miracles or Magic? I wonder...

For all my readers who are not aware of Urdu language these are the advertisements by self-claimed spiritual healers (mostly referred as Baba or Aalim sahab) who claim that they have some special kind of miraculous religious/ spiritual powers by which they can help their follower/ client to get their dream life-partner/ a good job/ boom in business/ total control over husbands and mother-in-laws, or anything that their follower desires. I am not aware of the growth rate of these Babas in other cities of Pakistan but these days every corner, every street in Karachi is bursting with these advertisements. Clients of these ad Babas belong to moderate income group; there are however exclusive Babas or Aalim sahab available for wealthier followers who act far more sophisticatedly and their reputation is made by word of mouth or probably by appearing on TV shows. Yes, our media also encourage such Babas, after all the media is also part of the so...

If only we pay attention….

Some time ago I introduced myself to a Malaysian lady, “I am from Pakistan”. The lady responded “Oh gosh Pakistan! You have lots of bombing. I know your country I heard it on the news”. Embarrassed as I was, but couldn’t say anything except of changing the subject. Regrettably Pakistan is now synonymous with bombs and even more regrettably Islam is synonymous with extremism and terrorism. Then adding fuel to fire, in the garb of freedom of expression certain sections of foreign intellectuals freely exhibit their disrespect towards our sacred and revered Religious Personalities . Misinformation or lack of information, further fueled by bias, leads to disastrous results and this is what exactly happened in the case of  Islam and especially our beloved  Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).  I wish, I have the caliber to explain  Prophet Muhammad's (Peace Be Upon Him) teachings. However, if we only take a look at his last sermon which he gave...
